![]() Carol Nixon Carol Nixon (57) entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 24. Carol and her husband, Pastor John Nixon, were married for 31 years and have served on the staff of North Park Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan for several years. They formerly served for many years at West Cannon Baptist Church in Belmont, Michigan. Carol is also survived by daughters Brittany (David) Sica, Bethany Nixon, and Aubrey (Mason) Lewis; son Josiah Nixon; and grandson, Cooper Chambers. Visitation will be held at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Dr. NE, Belmont, MI, on Wednesday, January 29, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, at West Cannon Baptist Church, 5760 Cannonsburg Rd. NE, Belmont, with visitation one hour prior to the service. ![]() Charles Reed Pastor Charles “PR” Reed, 84, of Lakefield Township, Michigan, was welcomed into the presence of His Savior on Christmas Day, in Leesburg, Florida. Chuck and his wife, Ruth, were married for 62 years. He was a 1959 graduate of the Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College (now Cornerstone University). During his 61 years of ministry, PR and Ruthie served in Michigan churches in Wyoming, Cambria, Grand Rapids, Newberry (twice), Dollar Bay, Marquette, McMillan, and Sault Sainte Marie; and in Toledo, Ohio and St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a frequent speaker at numerous Bible Camps, summer Bible Conferences and countless pulpit supplies. In semi-retirement, he developed large annual ministries to youth, evangelists and pastors in Cuba. PR loved the Upper Peninsula and enjoyed photography, painting, ships of the Great Lakes, sports, outdoors, writing a news column “PR’s Point” for the Newberry News and other papers, had a radio show and helped broadcast Newberry High school sports. He was an athletic coach, served on the school board and a longstanding fixture in the community. Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth; four children, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; siblings Howard (Shirley) Reed, Irene Kalnbach, Eleanor (Jay) Walsh, Maxine (Fred) Carlson and Harold Reed; brother-in-law Allen Teed. A memorial service celebrating the life of PR will be held Saturday July 11, 2020 in Newberry, Michigan with time and location to be announced at a later date.
