WITH THE LORD

PHYLLIS GOAD. Former MARBC pastor’s wife, Phyllis Goad (79), went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 19. Phyllis attended Moody Bible Institute where her husband, Pastor Ollie Goad graduated. Her spiritual gifts were music and working one on one with the teaching ministry. Phyllis was a humble and gracious lady who was a faithful wife and mother, and faithful to her God. Her ministry in the MARBC included serving alongside of Ollie as he served as the pastor of Wealthy Street Baptist Church for several years. Please be in prayer for Ollie, their four children, 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. A Service of Praise and Thanksgiving was held on Thursday, April 26, at West Cannon Baptist Church, with Pastor Mark Cizauskas and Pastor Maynard Belt officiating. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Moody Bible Institute, 820 N. LaSalle Blvd., Chicago, IL 60612.
LELAND “BUD” HALL. Former MARBC Pastor Leland “Bud” Hall (53) was called into the presence of his Lord early Saturday morning, April 14, having passed away in his sleep. Bud was currently serving as the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Bay Shore, New York (Long Island). Prior to the start of his current ministry in 2007, Bud served as the youth pastor at Evangel Baptist Church in Taylor, Michigan, for 22 years. He had a godly impact on numerous teens during his ministry here in Michigan, not only at Evangel but also in the M.A.R.B.C.
Memorial services were held at Calvary Baptist Church in Bayshore on Wednesday, April 18, and Evangel Baptist Church in Taylor on Saturday, April 21. A special fund to assist the Hall family has been established for those who would like to contribute. Your check can be made payable to Evangel Baptist Church, 16994 Telegraph Rd., Taylor, MI 48180, with the memo “Bud Hall Memorial Fund.”
You are encouraged to uphold in prayer Bud’s wife, Sandy, their five adult and teenage children, as well as the Calvary Baptist Church family in your prayers.
CORABELLE STOWELL – Corabelle Stowell, widow of former GARBC National Representative and MARBC Pastor Joseph Stowell II, entered her Lord’s presence on March 26, at the age of 94. Corabelle served with her husband during his pastorates in Michigan, Ohio, and New Jersey. She faithfully served for 10 years with her husband when he was elected in 1969 as the GARBC’s national representative. The Stowells were married for 69 years when Dr. Stowell was called into the presence of His Lord in 2007. The Stowells’ gravesite is located near Dr. Stowell’s birthplace in Colon, Michigan. Dr. Stowell came to Christ at age 9 through the ministry influence of the First Baptist Church in Colon. A private memorial service was held there on March 31.
Mrs. Stowell is survived by her three children, Hannah (Clifton) Jensen of Hampton, Tennessee; Margaret (R. William) Wheeler of Cedarville, Ohio; and Joseph M. (Martha Bennett) Stowell III of Grand Rapids, Michigan, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be given to the Stowell Memorial Camper Scholarship Fund, Doe River Gorge Camp, 220 Doe River Gorge Rd., Hampton, TN 37658.
MARBC NEWS & NOTES
GRAND RAPIDS, Trinity Baptist Church (Brett Boomsma, Pastor) – On April 1, 2012 Trinity Baptist Church in Grand Rapids broke ground on a 1.1 million dollar building expansion. This new two-story addition will consist of a new 500 seat worship auditorium, foyer, bathrooms, classrooms, children’s ministry floor, youth ministry wing, elevator and storage.
Senior Pastor Brett Boomsma shares: “This addition comes after three years of planning and following the Lord’s biblical stewardship principles. Because of God’s blessings and His people’s faithful giving, Trinity will be able to build this new addition free of any long term debt. The Leadership in our church has been exceptional through out this season of growth, and I could not have been blessed more in ministry than to have a co pastor like Jory Trim, he is in many ways one of my best friends.”
“The people have really responded to the Lords leading. Attendance has grown to the point that we have to set up chairs in the foyer, baptisms have become almost a monthly blessing and we praise the Lord for increased attendance through new people coming to the saving grace of Jesus. However we are careful to remember that this building addition is in no way our goal. Ascribing worth to God, learning from His Word, and being transformed into His image is the goal we never want to be distracted from.”
The members of Trinity circled the area where the new facility will be located as the Trinity leadership conducted the ground breaking. An empty shovel and hard hat were placed in the middle of the ceremony in remembrance of Trinity deacon Samuel DeMan, who went home to be with his Lord in mid-February. Sam was a key leader at Trinity who was instrumental in leading the building expansion project. The building is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
